Classification
Shared maintenance code lists — what kind of component something is (SMCS code), which one of several on a plant (modifier), and what was done to it (job).
Its central question:
When we record that a component was fitted, removed or repaired, which standard codes say what it was, where on the plant, and what was done — the same way in every application?
It is a member of the Work & Supply network. Asset Register uses it for fitment positions (SMCS code + modifier) and removal jobs; other applications can refer to the same codes. They store a code's network id and its code, and find codes with the classification search.
The codes are a common subset of Caterpillar SMCS (Service Management Coding System) — component codes, SMCS-style modifier codes and job codes. Codes are data with a scheme, so other schemes or an OEM-neutral taxonomy can be added later without changing the applications that use them.
